Focused Pressure
Deep Tissue Massage in Avon, CT
Focused, therapeutic pressure that reaches the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue to release chronic tension.
Deep tissue work reaches the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue, where tension that has been building for months tends to sit. The strokes are slower and more specific than a Swedish massage, working through a tight area rather than gliding over it.
Good for
- Tension you have been carrying for a long time, not just this week
- The back, shoulders, neck, and hips of a desk-bound day
- Problem areas that keep coming back after they loosen
- Anyone who has finished a massage wishing it had gone firmer
Deeper does not mean painful
Good deep tissue work sits at the edge of what your body will accept and no further. Real pressure can feel intense in a productive way, but a muscle that is being hurt tightens up to protect itself, which undoes the point of the session. Pressure is adjusted the moment you say so.
How the time is spent
Tell me where the trouble is and we spend the session there. A 60 minute appointment is usually enough for one or two regions; 90 or 120 minutes leaves room to work an area thoroughly and still treat the rest of the body.
Afterwards
It is normal to feel worked on for a day or so, the way you might after a good stretch or a hard workout. Water and unhurried movement help. If a particular area has been stubborn for a while, a series of sessions tends to hold better than a single one.
